00Overview
Send email straight from a flow through any SMTP server — transactional notifications, alerts, digests or confirmations — to a single recipient or several at once. Compose the subject and body inline, choose plain text or HTML, and connect over TLS to your own mail provider, a corporate relay or a dedicated sending service. Each send reports whether it succeeded, so later steps can branch on the outcome.
Every field below is exactly what you see in the Flomation editor. Fields marked ● live picker let you choose from a list pulled live from your account — no IDs to look up.
01Connecting Email
- Get your outbound mail details from your email provider or mail server: the SMTP Host (e.g.
smtp.example.com) and the SMTP Port — commonly587for STARTTLS submission or465for direct TLS. - Identify the mailbox you will authenticate as and enter its Username (usually the full email address) and Password. For providers that enforce multi-factor authentication, generate an app-specific password rather than using your account password.
- Set Use TLS to match the port — turn it on for a direct-TLS port such as
465, and leave it off for587, where the connection upgrades to STARTTLS automatically. - Set the From Address to an address your server is permitted to send from — typically the authenticated mailbox itself or an address on a domain you have authenticated with the provider.
- In Flomation, store the mailbox password as an environment secret (e.g.
email_secret) and pick it in the node's Password field rather than typing it inline.
| Field | Type | Details | |
|---|---|---|---|
| SMTP Host | string | Required | smtp.example.com |
| SMTP Port | integer | Required | 587 |
| Username | string | user@example.com | |
| Password | string | ||
| Use TLS | boolean |
Pick an Environment on your flow (Flow Settings → Environment) so the secret resolves. Secret fields never show the value — they reference ${secrets.your_secret}.

03Notes & Limitations
Behaviours and constraints worth knowing before you build with these nodes.
- When Use TLS is disabled, credentials are only sent if the server advertises STARTTLS; otherwise authentication is refused to avoid transmitting them over an unencrypted connection, so enable Use TLS or connect to a server that supports STARTTLS.
- Enabling Use TLS opens a direct encrypted connection (typically on port 465), while leaving it disabled upgrades the connection with STARTTLS when the server advertises it (typically on port 587).
- Multiple recipients can be entered in the To field separated by commas; there are no separate CC, BCC, or Reply-To fields.
- A From Address is required, and messages may be rejected or fail to deliver if the sending server does not authorise that address.
- Attachments are not supported, and each message is sent with a single subject and body.
- If the Username field is left empty, the message is sent without authentication.
