Elastic Load Balancing
AWS integration · 25 node(s).
00Overview
Build and operate AWS load balancers straight from a flow — create Application, Network or Gateway load balancers, add listeners and routing rules, and manage the target groups behind them. Register or deregister targets, check target health, and adjust subnets, security groups, attributes and tags as your infrastructure changes. Describe actions let a flow read the current state of your load balancers, listeners, rules and targets so it can react automatically.
Every field below is exactly what you see in the Flomation editor. Fields marked ● live picker let you choose from a list pulled live from your account — no IDs to look up.
01Connecting Elastic Load Balancing
- In AWS, open the IAM console (console.aws.amazon.com/iam) and create — or reuse — an IAM identity that holds
elasticloadbalancingpermissions, plus the EC2 read access ELB relies on to resolve subnets and security groups. - In the node, choose an Authentication method and fill the fields it reveals: Access Keys uses an IAM user's AWS Access Key and AWS Secret Key (add a Session Token (optional) only for temporary STS credentials); Assume Role (cross-account) takes a Role ARN to Assume and an optional Assume Role External ID (optional), so Flomation's own identity assumes a role you grant it; Managed Role (Credential) uses a stored AWS Role Credential your workspace already holds.
- For the Access Keys method, open your IAM user's Security credentials tab, choose Create access key, and copy the Access key ID and Secret access key — the secret is shown only once.
- For the Assume Role method, edit the target role's trust policy so it allows Flomation's principal to call
sts:AssumeRole, and set the same External ID on both sides if you use one. - Set Region to the AWS region your load balancers live in (for example
eu-west-2) — Elastic Load Balancing is regional, so this must match your resources. - In Flomation, store the secret as an environment secret (e.g.
elbv2_secret) and pick it in the node's AWS Secret Key field rather than pasting it in as plain text.
| Field | Type | Details | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Authentication | string | Required | Access Keys, Assume Role (cross-account), Managed Role (Credential) |
| AWS Access Key | secret | Required | |
| AWS Secret Key | secret | Required | |
| Session Token (optional) | secret | ||
| AWS Role Credential | credential | Required |
Pick an Environment on your flow (Flow Settings → Environment) so the secret resolves. Secret fields never show the value — they reference ${secrets.your_secret}.

11Notes & Limitations
Behaviours and constraints worth knowing before you build with these nodes.
- Elastic Load Balancing is a regional service, so the Region you set must match the region your load balancers live in, or resources in other regions will be neither listed nor found.
- Newly created load balancers start in a provisioning state and take a few minutes before they are ready to serve traffic.
- A load balancer with deletion protection enabled cannot be deleted until that attribute is switched off first.
- Assume Role authentication uses Flomation's own identity as the base caller, so the target role's trust policy must grant that principal permission to assume it, and any External ID you enter must match the one set in that trust policy.
- Rule conditions and actions must be supplied as raw JSON arrays in the exact Elastic Load Balancing format shown in each field's example.
- A target group cannot be deleted while it is still referenced by a listener or rule, so remove those references first.
