Block Volumes

Oracle Cloud integration · 69 node(s).

00Overview

Provision and manage Oracle Cloud block and boot volumes straight from a flow — create, clone, resize, attach and detach storage, move it between compartments, and tidy it up when it is no longer needed. Protect the data with manual or scheduled backups, group volumes so they back up together, copy backups to another region for disaster recovery, and manage the encryption keys that guard them. You can also read back any volume, backup, group, policy, attachment or replica to drive later steps or keep an inventory.

Every field below is exactly what you see in the Flomation editor. Fields marked ● live picker let you choose from a list pulled live from your account — no IDs to look up.

01Connecting Block Volumes

  1. Every Block Volumes node opens with an Authentication choice: pick Connect Oracle Cloud to use a managed connection (recommended), or API signing key (advanced) to enter a signing key by hand.
  2. For Connect Oracle Cloud, open your Flomation Environment settings and add an Oracle Cloud connection, giving it your Tenancy OCID and home Region. Follow the guided setup to provision a dedicated least-privilege user in your own tenancy and register Flomation's signing key, then supply the resulting User OCID and run Test connection — allow a minute or two for the new key to become active before it succeeds.
  3. Back in the node, select that connection in the Oracle Cloud connection field — there are no keys to copy or store.
  4. For API signing key (advanced), open the OCI Console Profile menu → My profile, and under API keys choose Add API key to generate a key pair and download the private key. The Configuration file preview then shows the Tenancy OCID, User OCID, Key Fingerprint and Region — copy each into the matching node field.
  5. Store the downloaded private key (the full PEM, including the BEGIN/END lines) as a Flomation environment secret — for example blockvolume_secret — and pick it in the node's Private Key (PEM) field, filling Private Key Passphrase only if the key itself is encrypted.
  6. Set the Compartment OCID on each node to the compartment whose volumes it should work in; you can copy it from the OCI Console under Identity → Compartments.

05Notes & Limitations

Behaviours and constraints worth knowing before you build with these nodes.

  • Updating a volume group's member volumes replaces the group's entire membership rather than adding to it, so always supply the complete list of volumes the group should contain.
  • Deleting a volume group removes only the grouping itself; its member block volumes are left intact and must be deleted separately if you no longer need them.
  • Cross-region backup copies and volume detaches run asynchronously and return a work-request id, so the operation is still completing in the background even though the action has already reported success.
  • Oracle's predefined Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum backup policies cannot be edited or deleted; only policies you create within a compartment can be changed or removed.
  • Unlike a plain data volume, a boot volume and a volume group can never be created empty: a boot volume must be seeded from a clone, a backup restore, or a replica, and a volume group must be given existing volumes to group, another group to clone, or a group backup to restore.
  • A newly added Oracle Cloud connection can take a minute or two before its signing key becomes active, so a connection test or first run attempted immediately after setup may fail once and then succeed on retry.
